Smith School Library
Welcome to the J. Spencer Smith School Library Website! This website has been created to serve the teachers, students, and parents of the Smith School community.
The Smith School Library is the center of learning and all students and teachers have unlimited access to the library. The library includes a comprehensive and up to date collection of both printed and electronic materials. The Media Center also houses networked computers with online catalogues, 28 iPads, a smart board, digital cameras, video conference capabilities, and a class set of Chromebooks.
In addition to being a teacher and a librarian, I am an instructional partner with the classroom teachers and I will work closely with all students to provide an exciting and relevant library experience.
Students at Smith School visit the library once a week for 45 minutes. In addition, students are encouraged and welcome to visit the library throughout the week. Some of the units of study that our library classes teach consist of in-depth author studies, appreciation and selection of literature, library organization, digital citizenship units, research skills and strategies, reader’s theater, and technology projects. In addition to these units students are also introduced to many STEM challenges throughout the year. Students at Smith also spend several weeks on the “Hour of Code” and learn to work through coding activities.
I look forward to working with you and hope that you find this website helpful.
