• Dear Friends,

Welcome to Tenafly Middle School!  I am excited to get the school year started, as this will be my fourth year at TMS and my 16th year in Tenafly.  Our school continues to thrive under our three simple rules:

    • Take care of yourself
    • Take care of each other
    • Take care of this place

The TMS staff is a dedicated team of outstanding educators who understand the needs of a middle school child.  We work together to create a warm and nurturing environment while we challenge students to learn, grow, and mature into caring adults. Our school is a family and we support each other every day.  Teachers, counselors, secretaries, custodians, nurses, child study team members, and administrators are all here for the same purpose: to make a difference in the life of a child.

Our students are amazing young people who understand that there is no substitute for hard work. Whether focused on academics, the arts, athletics, or extra-curricular activities, our students do their best and it shows.  We believe every child can learn the power of resilience and experience success.  Students also work on a variety of service projects and learn how volunteerism is so important to the health of our society.

In addition to the students and educators, the parents and families of Tenafly Middle School are important members of the school community.  Led by the volunteers in our Home School Association, the TMS parents are dedicated to enriching the lives of our children.  TMS students are very lucky to live in such a great town filled with people who believe that education is paramount.

Last year, we established a common language to keep everyone focused on our goals.  Our Gimme Five! Program outlines ideas and strategies that make our school successful. Check out the links to the right.

The past two years we have read two important books that I highly recommend to parents and educators: Mindset by Carol Dweck and The Gift of Failure by Jessica Lahey. These books have strong philosophies and practical ideas to help adults through parenthood.

I wish you all the best this school year and let’s make it a great one together.

    Live your dreams every day!
