Student Assessment: Proficiency and Progress
Students are tested at the beginning of the school year or upon arrival using the WIDA-MODEL Placement test to determine their level of English proficiency.
In the Spring, students are tested again using the WIDA-ACCESS test. The ACCESS test is a standardized test used to assess improvement in English proficiency. Results from the Spring WIDA-ACCESS test are mailed home to parents in the Fall.
Both of these tests assess speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
Students are also assessed throughout the year through observation, in-class performance, quizzes/tests, and homework assignments.
An ELL progress report is provided to parents during each of the two formal parent/teacher conferences during the school year, and the report for the 3rd marking period is mailed home at the end of the school year.
