Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!
New to Art at Smith School this year is our Sketchpad initiative!!
I am excited to announce that the sketchpads can be a great way for students to keep their drawings, designs, and art-related vocabulary in one easy-to-access location!
The sketchpad will also travel to and from art class and be stored safely with your child's classroom teacher.
Many students have purchased sketchbooks through our school supply kits.
If you still need a sketchpad, please visit the links below for purchase options and ideas. An appx. 30-50 page 9x12 inch. sketchbook will be great.
Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Anthony Castellano
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I am once again very excited to be teaching art at Smith Elementary School! As the art teacher, I will have the amazing opportunity to discover, explore, and create with each grade level. My philosophy of teaching is that each student is like a different color on a painter's palette. With that idea in mind, I look forward to displaying the diversity of the students at Smith through the expressive and colorful pieces created throughout the year.
This year we will work with 2D and 3D mediums, incorporate the elements of art and principles of design in the creation of works, and even explore new trends in art. The S.T.E.A.M. philosophy is a great approach to the art-making and design process. This year, we will continue to explore ways to infuse science, technology, engineering, and math alongside art for constructive and cohesive learning.
My expectations of my students are clear. Make A.R.T. That is Act Appropriately, Respect each other, the materials and environment, and Try your very best. Following these rules will ensure a successful, fun, and safe art experience.
This page also serves as a great resource with art-related links, references, and media. Important messages regarding upcoming exhibits and events can also be found here. Please visit throughout the year for updates. Here you will also find what is happening in art class.
