Stillman Elementary School

A Letter from Principal Lander

  • Dear Stillman Families,

This has been an INCREDIBLE year!  We’ve heard the words, “unprecedented,” “unique,” and “challenging,” many times throughout the year but those words can’t accurately describe the ways in which we have all been impacted by COVID-19 and the many restrictions.  All of us have been affected in some way and through it all our teachers, staff, students, and parents have demonstrated unity and partnership in education.  We learned to do things differently than ever before, we learned flexibility, independence, and how to find the silver lining!  I am so proud of our Stillman Staff for continuing to be creative problem-solvers, innovators, and motivators in learning.

    We did it!!

As we look forward to next year and to planning for a “normal” year, I am excited to share some staff changes.  Next year, Ms. Zawadzki will be teaching 2nd grade and Mrs. Harris will be teaching Basic Skills alongside Mrs. Lyons.  I know that their talents will bring positive results to our students, our teams, and our school!  Unfortunately, this also means that we say goodbye to Ms. Powers, who will be working primarily at Smith School.  She has played an instrumental role in our RTI program and in meeting the individual needs of our students.  Smith is lucky to have her!   In addition, we welcome back Ms. Davis to her position as Occupational Therapist and sincerely thank Ms. Park for filling in so expertly and compassionately during this year.  Ms. Wechsler will be on Maternity Leave during the 2021-22 school year and Ms. Appiah will also be on Maternity Leave through February of 2022.  During the summer months I will be actively searching for the best candidates to fill these important roles and I look forward to sharing our new staff members with you in my August communication home.

Once again, I want to thank you for your support of our staff, your children, and me during this school year!  When I became a principal 8 years ago, one of my hesitations in leaving my teacher position was that I didn’t want to “leave the classroom.”  I am proud to say that I haven’t!  As a principal, I am in every classroom every day and your children bring me so much joy!  Nothing made me happier than welcoming each of our students back onsite and I can’t wait to see our virtual students return in September!  Our students are respectful, compassionate, friendly, outspoken and are the reason I love what I do!  Thank you for entrusting me with your children each day and for all that you each do to make our school a family!   For our families, who are moving I wish you the very best and hope that you will always think back fondly on your time here at Stillman.  We will miss you!

I hope you have a wonderful summer, find time to relax, read, and build lasting memories.  And I can’t wait to see you all again in September!

    Good, Better...

    Best,

    Mrs. Lander
