• Welcome to TMS Band and Music Technology students!

    TMS BAND
Band class is open to any TMS student who plays or is willing to learn one of the following instruments:  flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, F horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, tuba or percussion.  The goal is for students to become life-long music lovers, through greater technical proficiency on their instrument, a greater appreciation of a wide variety of musical styles and the ability to work as a member of large team - the musical ensemble.  Click on your grade level band to find out more information.

    MUSIC TECH
In Music Tech, we will be exploring the world of technology and how it can be used to make and understand music as well as other types of sound organization.  We will be embarking on a fascinating new world of computer programs, sound editing, looping software and digital piano skills.  Each class will be held in our Music lab, room 108.  Projects will be completed entirely in class, and no homework will be given unless a student fails to complete an assignment in the allotted time.  Most of the class time will be spent on working on projects with a partner.  This class is also taught by Mr. Rzonsa and Dr. Burja.

    EXTRA-CURRICULAR
The TMS Jazz Band is open to any TMS music student.   We meet on Tuesdays after school, from 3-3:45pm and perform at 2 TMS concerts per year.  Occasionally, jazz band students participate in outside performances and field trips.  Students need to be able to read music and have a Middle School proficiency level of their instrument.  Typical jazz instruments include: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drumset, piano, bass and guitar.  However, any instrument is welcome to join!

Dr. Kimberly Burja has been a music educator for over 20 years, 14 years as the Director of Bands at Tenafly Middle School.  She has also taught at Passaic Valley High and West Windsor Plainsboro High School.  Dr. Burja was a long-time percussion faculty member of the Interlochen Arts Camp (20 years!) and holds degrees from the University of North Texas (B.A. in Music), University of Miami (Master in Music) and Rutgers University (Doctorate of Musical Arts).
