Mrs. Elizabeth Kim
¡Hola y Bienvenidos! I would like to introduce myself. I am Mrs. Kim and this is my fifth year at Tenafly High School. I will be teaching Spanish 4 CPA, 4 Honors, and AP Spanish Language and Culture.
I was born and raised in Argentina. I was educated in Buenos Aires for 18 years and I moved to the United States after graduating high school. I hold a bachelor's degree in Sacred Music from Nyack College and a Masters in Teaching Spanish from Rutgers University. I became a teacher through the Alternate Route program. Prior to coming to Tenafly, I taught all levels of Spanish at a private high school.
The following quote by former U.S Secretary of Education, Margaret Spellings, sums up the reason I feel so passionate about helping my students acquire the skill of speaking another language. "It is, therefore, very important to teach students about the world beyond their own countries. What are the similarities we share and differences with our friends around the world? We must understand what motivates those whose cultures and traditions are not our own. To achieve these goals, we must teach our children international educational skills, which include the learning of other languages, cultures, and traditions.” The world is becoming more and more globalized each day and it is extremely important for the younger generation of English-speaking students to connect with other cultures by utilizing language to break down barriers wherever they exist. I believe that the ability to communicate in another language supports an understanding of other cultures and a connection to a wider range of people in both the business and social world.
As a teacher, I have a great responsibility to my students and I take my position very seriously. I hope to inspire and guide my students to achieve their dreams and also to become caring, compassionate, and upright adults. I am blessed to get up every morning and go to a job that I absolutely love to do.
I look forward to this new academic year and hope to establish great relationships with my students and their families.
Cordialmente,
Sra. Kim
