Welcome to art at Maugham! I am so happy to be continuing this year as a member of the Maugham school community. I have been an art teacher since 2007. I have previously taught in the Edgewater school district as well as at the Spring School here in Tenafly, and I am so happy to continue in this wonderful community!
My background prior to teaching was as an art conservator. Conservation of artworks involves both preservation and restoration, and is closely linked to material science. I completed my graduate internship at the Museum of Modern Art, held a fellowship at the Guggenheim Museum, and worked as conservator at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of the American Indian. I hope I can share with the students my varied experiences working in museums, and inspire them to go see art!
As an artist my interests are wide-ranging, but my true love is with the materials of art- the tools that are used to transform an idea into a product. I love introducing students to new materials and watching them discover new ways to express their ideas. While this can be messy at times, it is precisely this process that I believe to be most important for the development of student artists. I look forward to the opportunity to explore and learn this year with the students at Maugham!
Please feel free to stop by the art room to see what we are working on. I am always in the room at the end of the school day and would be happy to meet you. For any other concerns the best way to contact me is via email: email@example.com.
