    Reading

    • We will be using the Schoolwide Curriculum.
    • Your child will learn a variety of reading skills and practices this year through :
      • mini-lessons, shared reading, mentor texts, and independent reading.
    • Our current unit of study focuses on the routines of Reader’s Workshop, as well as foundational reading skills such as:
        • Choosing a “Just Right Book”,
        • Making connections while we read,
        • Making sense of new vocabulary, and
        • Reading comprehension.
    • We will cover the main genres of Fiction and Nonfiction, as well as content-related reading to enrich our Science and Social Studies curriculum.

    Writing

    • We will also be using Schoolwide for Writer’s workshop.
    • Your child will develop and publish a personal essay, feature article,  fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.
    • While we draft and journal in our Writer’s Notebooks, many of our final pieces will be typed.
